Northern Cyprus beaches: Karpaz and the East Coast

If you are investing in a Begonvillia Court property then you will be spoilt for choice as the beaches in Northern Cyprus and all along the east coast are amongst the best on the island. You can walk for hours on the untouched sands of Golden Beach near the tip of the Karpaz Peninsula, or visit one of the many well maintained Hotel or Beldiye (local council) owned beaches.

Here are a few that we can recommend. (The hotel and private beaches have a small daily charge for non residents)

Beaches in North Cyprus between Iskele and Famagusta:

  • Long Beach – about 2km south of Iskele. Good beach side restaurant and bar, showers and plenty of sun beds and umbrellas
  • Silver Beach – next to the Salamis ruins. Nice little beach with showers, bar/restaurant and showers. Great to cool off after a visit to the Salamis Ruins.

  • Glapsides, Famagusta – close to the town so a popular beach with locals.

Beaches between Iskele and the Karpaz:

  • Bogaz Beach Club, Bogaz – a small beach close to the many bars and restaurants in Bogaz.
  • Artemis Hotel beach, Bafra – a beautifully kept beach with a long jetty and water sports in the summer. With a day ticket you can use the beach, the 100m swimming pool, children’s pool with water slides and all the hotel facilities.
  • Malibu Hotel Beach – small clean beach on the western side of the Karpaz close to Yeni Erenkoy.
  • Ayios Philion, Dipkarpaz – next to the Oasis Hotel and Restaurant. There is a more secluded beach about 500m from the Hotel at the site of a Roman harbour where you can snorkel in crystal clear waters.

  • Golden Beach, Dipkarpaz – 5 miles of unspoilt beach.

Beaches in Kyrenia

The Kyrenia coast offers beautiful Northern Cyprus beaches characterised by small coves and bays between rocky headlands and outcrops. There are a good number of well maintained Hotel and Beldiye (local council) beaches in the area.

Here are a few that we recommend. (The hotel and private beaches have a small daily charge for non residents.)

West of Kyrenia:

  • Karsiyaka beach – a long stretch of sandy and rocky beach ideal for walking the dog and “blowing the cobwebs away” on a Sunday morning.

  • Escape Beach, Alsancake – this is a very popular beach with both the local community and holiday makers. You can swim out to floating pontoons about 50m from the shore and also wade across to a tiny beach beside a large rock/island.
  • Camelot Beach, Alsancake – small beach resort with restaurant and water sports
  • Mercure Hotel Beach, Alsancake
  • Merit Hotel Beach, Alsancake

East of Kyrenia

  • Diana beach, Catalkoy – popular for dingy sailing with a club and lessons available in the summer months.
  • Malpas Hotel beach club, Catalkoy – recently built beach club with night time entertainment.
  • Acapulco Beach Resort Hotel, Catalkoy – well maintained beach with lawns alongside and swimming pools with water slides. A great day out for children.
  • Vogue Beach Club, about 2km east of Catalkoy – with bar and restaurant and night time entertainment in the summer months. Popular venue with local and International DJs.
  • Lara Beach, about 4 km east of Catalkoy – pretty little beach with small cafe. Friendly and good for swimming.
  • Alagadi Beach (or Turtle Beach) between Catalkoy and Kyrenium Golf course – this is a turtle breeding ground so the beach is closed after 8pm. The beach is reached over sand dunes and there are no facilities so you will need to bring food and plenty of water. Definitely one of the most intriguing beaches in North Cyprus!

  • Kucuk Erenkoy, past Esentepe – This is the site of a Roman Harbour and the natural limestone features make a great playground for kids. It is soon to be a new 500 berth marina – so catch it whilst you can!
  • Kaplica Beach, near Tatlisu – if you like exploring pretty coastal roads you will love this journey. Follow the new coastal road east to Tatlisu, and then join the old coast road to Mersinlik. Kaplica is about 10 minutes past Mersinlik.
