Flying to Cyprus from UK airports

There are currently no direct flights from UK airports into North Cyprus however flying to Cyprus is simple as there are many flights and airlines to Larnaca Airport in the Republic of Cyprus. There are four places where you can cross the border with a car into Northern Cyprus and for EU passport holders a visitor’s visa can be obtained quickly, easily and free of charge at the border crossing.

It is also possible to fly from the UK into Ercan airport in North Cyprus with a short stopover in Turkey. If you take this route then you remain on the plane for 30-40 minutes at the Turkish airport so it’s still a simple way of travelling.

Fly with UK airlines to Larnaca Airport

Larnaca, on the south coast, is the main airport in the Republic of Cyprus and also serves as a hub into Middle Eastern countries. The flying time from the UK is around four to four and a half hours, with flights available from most UK regional airports.

Airlines flying to Larnaca with direct flights include:

Car hire from the airport

You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at Larnaca Airport and you can drive it across the border into North Cyprus. An additional insurance policy covering driving the hire car in North Cyprus is available at the border crossing for a small amount of money.

If you intend to stay on the north coast, in the Kyrenia area or anywhere between Karsiyaka and Esentepe, it is best to cross the border at Nicosia (Lefcosa). It takes about 45 minutes to reach the border crossing from Larnaca Airport and then a further 25 minutes to reach the centre of Kyrenia.

If you are planning to stay in Famagusta, Iskele area or the Karpaz peninsula you can cross the border at either Pyla or Famagusta. (Pyla is a unique village within the UN Buffer Zone where Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots live side by side in harmony). It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the Pyla border crossing and 40 minutes to reach the Famagusta border crossing from Larnaca airport.

Taxis from the airport

If you do not intend to hire a car in the south we would recommend booking a taxi from North Cyprus to collect you from Larnaca airport. The cost of this for a one way trip is approximately as follows:

To Kyrenia
£60
To Famagusta
£50
To Iskele or Bogaz
£55
To Bafra (Karpaz)
£75

Ercan Airport

Ercan Airport is the main North Cyprus airport for a connecting flight from the UK. It is located about 20 minutes east of Nicosia. There are daily flights to Turkey and regular flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted via Turkey. The flying time including stopover is around 5 hours but the journey time to reach your destination in North Cyprus will be less than flying to Larnaca.
